Job Summary

The JR. R&D Technologist is responsible for developing new extension lines for Embassy Ingredients and provide R&D expertise in existing products and play proactive role in new or large development project.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops new products, line extensions and applications to meet specific customers and company requirements
  • Compounds samples based on opportunity requests from sales account managers
  • Bakes for test evaluations and customer presentations
  • Identify new technologies for existing applications
  • Assists QA/QC in instrumentation and technical challenges
  • Sets up and maintains product formula in the computer system accurately
  • Sets up and maintains product specification for new & existing bakery mixes in the computer system accurately
  • Sets up and maintains nutrition information for raw materials and existing products in the computer system accurately
  • Maintains accurate project notes and formula records in the computer system
  • Prepares for SR&ED file and IRAP files
  • Tests and evaluates new ingredients from suppliers to improve current products and provide cost saving options
  • Assists and resolves production and QA issues when arise and creates re-work formula in production system
  • Conducts trouble shooting testing and provides technical support to internal and external customers as needed
  • Provides technical field support when upscaling production trials at customer’s initial production for new products and continuous support to existing product when required
  • Maintains lab inventory, refills R&D ingredients when required and maintains work station clean and organized
  • Conducts general duties, specific projects and responsibilities as assigned
  • Ability to lift ingredients and equipment (20 KG) to a trolley
  • Supports all food safety initiatives, including (but not limited to) BRCGS, HACCP, GMPs, Allergens, GFCP, Kosher, Halal, Customer Requirements (Such as Costco standards and Kraft Standards)
  • Duties, responsibilities and activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical science or related field or equivalent industry experience
  • 2-5 years of experience in product development and/or food industry
  • Must be enthusiastic, flexible and work well with others
  • Must have a good understanding of computer software such as Excel spreadsheet, Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills and the ability to work with a team
  • Ability to work under tight timelines and pressure
  • Ability to work with imperial and metric measurement conversions, and calculating ppm
  • Positive and professional attitude
