Job Description

To begin to develop a full understanding of all parts of flavour development including recognition of aroma chemicals and an understanding of how flavours perform in food products.  To provide support to the Flavour Laboratory as required. To compound flavours and to assist where needed.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Compound samples based on opportunity requests from account managers
  • Complete assigned application and flavour projects with in the guidelines provided
  • Maintain clear and concise project notes and formula records
  • Conduct trials and sensory panels if needed
  • Confirm that pricing, legislation and other related issues meet the defined requirements
  • Prepare prototypes for customer submissions
  • Set up and maintain all formula in the formula/production system, including load experimental formulations and assign new commercial numbers.
  • Provide information for specifications, retain samples for first production runs and provide samples for excise approval if required
  • Assist Flavourist as needed
  • Maintain and manage raw material library
  • Maintain  SR&ED file
  • Maintain security of Embassy proprietary information
  • Maintain good awareness of available resources and raw materials by keeping up to date on relevant new publications and literature
  • Participate in taste panels and other project related work with both the Flavour and Bakery Lab with the objective of assisting and learning from other colleagues to solve flavour problems
  • Lend technical support to account managers and customers as required
  • Follow Good Manufacturing Practices with respect to safety of working procedures and the appearance of personal and common work areas
  • Supports all food safety initiatives, including (but not limited to) BRCGS, HACCP, GMPs, Allergens, GFCP, Kosher, Halal, Customer Requirements (Such as Costco standards and Kraft Standards)
  • Duties, responsibilities and activities may change or new ones may be assigned at any time.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical science or related field or equivalent industry experience
  • Must be enthusiastic, flexible and work well with others
  • Must have a good understanding of computer functions i.e word processing, Embassy systems etc
  • Excellent organizational and communications skills and the ability to work effectively with a team
  • Ability to work under tight timelines and pressure
  • Ability to work on a flexible work schedule when required

  • Exposures encountered, such as hazardous materials, loud noise, or extreme heat/cold.
  • Essential physical requirements, such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing.
  • Physical effort/lifting, such as sedentary up to 20lbs
