I am a driven and innovative individual who wants to find a future career helping people through food. I am passionate about all things food, nutrition, and well-being, and I am working on completing my MSc in Food Safety and Quality Assurance. I strongly believe that all individuals should have the experience of delicious food that is safe and nutritious. I want to make this a reality for everyone through a fulfilling career in this ever-growing food industry.
Currently completing my MSc. in Food Safety and Quality Assurance from the University of Guelph. I have taken a wide variety of courses during this degree including food safety, quality, food law and policy, functional foods and nutraceuticals, and public health policy. I am currently working on a research project looking into the effects of different types of carbohydrates and cooking methods on the state of probiotic bacteria in a simulated human digestive tract. The overall goal is to determine if different types of foods and different food processing methods have any effect on the gut microbiota.
I successfully completed a BSc. in Nutrition and Dietetics, from which I graduated in April 2019. During my undergraduate degree, I was able to take a variety of courses that included clinical nutrition, public health, nutrition policy, food science, organic chemistry, microbiology, and food processing. This degree gave me a solid foundation to undertake a master degree, and start a career in the food industry.
While completing my MSc., I have been working part-time in the Office of the Vice President, Research at the University of Guelph. In this role, I have completed a wide variety of tasks to ease the administrative burden on the full-time staff in the office. I frequently complete filing and archiving documents in an efficient manner, and I have also developed a number of different briefing packages and event invitations for the office. Working part-time while completing course work and research has also strengthened my prioritizing and time management skills greatly.
I played an essential role in all areas of the store, as I was frequently covering vacation time for the year-round employees of the store. I enjoyed working as a front-end cashier and ensuring that customers found what they needed and had a pleasant experience. I efficiently stocked grocery, dairy, bulk, and produce areas as needed, while also assisting in receiving large orders in a timely manner. Having a background in nutrition, I was able to work closely with customers to help them find various food products and supplements that met their dietary needs or restrictions.
