I am a dedicated student currently studying Food Safety and Quality Assurance at Conestoga College after graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Science and Business from the University of Waterloo. After building up my skill set with over 4 years of hands-on lab experience, I am excited to continue improving my technical skills and learn more about the food processing industry. I am especially excited to break out into industry following the end of my program in September and join those working tirelessly to meet the food supply demands.
Assisted R&D team by conducting product development from sensory evaluation to plant trials; Completed project determining effects of sour dough on shelf life and quality of certain products
Conducted fungal transformations on Fusarium graminearum to edit and disrupt genes with CRISPR system to identify and characterize unique effector proteins and virulence factors; Microscopically examined fungal spores to ensure successful propagation and used molecular biology techniques like qPCR,gel electrophoresis and imaging, and designing guide RNA to meet proposal objectives
Assisted 3 technicians in Biosafety Level II laboratory in processing biological and environmental meat samples collected from abattoirs; Utilized culturing and molecular biology methods with appropriate controls to characterize microbes
