As the Application Technologist - Beverages, I am responsible for Flavor application projects throughout Pakistan, Africa and The Middle East region across all 3 major segments namely Carbonated Soft Drinks, Juice Drinks and Powdered Soft Drinks from all major production companies both National and Multinational. I am tasked with product formulation according to supplied briefs from product concept all the way through to factory integration and handover encompassing all aspects of technical input, product presentation and Professional Sensory Evaluation, Factory Integration and Process evaluation and validation.
As an Officer withinthe Research and Development department my responsibilities encompass all aspects ofNew Product Development as indicated in the project brief provided bythe marketing team/management, all the while incorporating my own Blue Skythinking into the equation. Carryingout my duties in accordance to the qualitysystems that form the basis of all development within National Foods andthe high standards that I hold personally in whatever I take on.Responsibilities include.• Handling all aspects of productdevelopment and subsequent commercialization of new products.• Product improvement/reformulations/substitutions.• Shelf life trials and product monitoringthroughout with respect to organoleptic and physical characteristics.• Sensory analysis and documentation in allphases of development and production of detailed reports with regardsto product performance.• Material studies and research andpresentation of findings to team and management personnel.• Vendor Development for improvement ofquality and multiplicity of procurement sources.• Conducting research studies on WasteUtilization Projects.
Serving as a Grant Writer to the National Science Foundations " Partnerships for Enhanced Engagement in Research (PEER) " grant scheme for the commencement of curriculum development workshops. The proposed series of curriculum development workshops on Food Technology and Security —comprising food scientists, leading food industrialists/entrepreneurs andfood NGO sector personnel— aims to enhance pedagogy, the quality of research, create linkages between institution to institution, industry to industry (given ‘Food Production By-product Utilization’) and industry to institution in the agricultural sciences, with an emphasis on food security in Pakistan. On a national level, youth empowered with cutting edge, critical knowledge are desperately needed to improve and sustain the agricultural output on a national level. Having reviewed local curricula in the Food Sciences and Technology, there exist several technological/knowledge gaps which the curriculum development workshops will address in detail and formulatestrategies for remedying; in the service of introducing a rigorous ‘Food Technology and Security’ undergraduate degree at the Karachi Institute for Technology and Entrepreneurship.
