My name is Siyu Liu and I am in the second semester of my master's study (Food Safety and Quality Assurance at the University of Guelph). I finished my undergraduate program as a Food Science student at UoG as well. My first (R&D assistant at Gay Lea) and second ( QC technician at GPI) are all about dairy products, and my master project is focused on how FFA impacts bovine milk foaming.
I would like to work as a QC, QA, HACCP specialist, or R&D technician for my future career.
The M.Sc. FSQA program provides advanced training in food safety and quality and other aspects of food science and technology. FSQA students acquire knowledge of the fundamentals of food policy development, Canadian and international food law, applied aspects of total quality management, food safety management systems, risk analysis, and detection and epidemiology of foodborne pathogens.
In this major, I gained an opportunity to explore food processing, food development processes, packaging, quality assurance, and safety. I not only learn the theory behind product development, but developed my own food product (spent-grain pretzel) and engaged in the food manufacturing, prototyping, and marketing aspects of food development.
Besides, I earned places on the Dean's Honours List in every semester of my last two years based on my outstanding marks.
