How Second Harvest is tackling Canada’s food waste problem | Sydney’s Two Cent’s

Lori Nikkel is the CEO of Second Harvest, a food rescue charity. Lori went to school for computer science and switched gears and has been working in the food security and agriculture industry. Now, as CEO, she’s fulfilling her passion to help manage our country’s food waste.

Lori believes there is a real issue within our food system and social service system where too much good food is going to waste. Lori wants to fix this problem and goes to work each day with that goal. She shares within the podcast more about her role and her main tasks, such as gathering food that is not going to get used throughout the supply chain and sending it to charities across Canada.

So if you have a passion for helping the environment and helping the supply chain reduce its food waste – there are plenty of jobs out there for you.

As said in the podcast, yes, there are some that are working for non-profits, but you still get paid and get to do what you love. The great thing about working in non-profits is everyone is there because they share a passion and a goal. But there are many opportunities within the corporate world too; it all depends on what you want to do and who you want to work for.

In this podcast, not only does Lori discuss some great advice, experience, and stories she also shares a lot of resources that Second Harvest provides. 3. Take opportunities to learn about the food waste sector.

4. There are lots of options – not all just within the non-profit space.
